Advanced 3D Printing Technology: Powder Bed Concrete 3D Printing

The production of the wall panels utilizes the powder bed concrete 3D printing process, also known as Selective Cement Activation (SCA). In this method, a cement paste is selectively injected into a powder bed, creating complex and detailed structures layer by layer. This technique eliminates the need for traditional formwork, facilitating the creation of intricate geometries and significantly expanding design freedom.

Weather Resistance and Sustainability through Smart Manufacturing

The material used is characterized by its high weather resistance and strength. By employing smart manufacturing technologies, resource-efficient and sustainable production is ensured. 3D concrete printing allows for efficient material usage and waste minimization, leading to a reduced ecological footprint.

Our sustainability strategy was built around the principle of making innovation environmentally responsible at every step. By using smart manufacturing and 3D-printing technology, we were able to drastically reduce material consumption — most importantly the use of cement, which was optimised to the absolute minimum required for structural performance. This resource-efficient approach significantly lowers the carbon footprint compared to conventional construction methods.

Locality also played a key role. All production and fabrication processes were carried out within just a few kilometres of the installation site, minimising transport distances and the associated emissions. This regional sourcing not only reduced environmental impact but also strengthened local value creation.

By combining advanced, material-efficient fabrication with near-site production, the project demonstrates how technological progress and sustainability can reinforce one another. It offers a future model for architectural components that are both high-performing and ecologically responsible.
